Demographic Census 2000: Labor and Income - first sample results

As a sequence to the release of thematic volumes with the Demographic Census 2000 sample results, IBGE presents, in this publication, the main demographic, social and economic characteristics of persons aged 10 years or over, considering their position in the occupation, type of participation in the labor market and income received from work or from other sources. With these results, the institution expands the group of previously released information about this topic in the volume Demographic Census 2000: first sample results.

The released data refer to the level of schooling, coverage by social security, position in the occupation, groups of occupation and of economic activity in the main job, working hours, level and concentration of income in active age population (obtained from work or from other sources), and families, among other indicators. The comments focus on the distinctions among certain population groups and evidence the differences between the productive structures and the levels of income concentration in Brazil 's Major Regions. The publication also brings methodological notes, concepts and definitions applied. The CD ROM which comes enclosed with the publication contains, besides the information in the printed volume, data for Federative Units, mezoregions, micro regions and municipalities, and the complete table plan which is the aim of the volume Demographic Census 2000: first sample results.

The results are estimates obtained by the expansion of the sample of 5 304 711 households and 20 274 412 persons, selected from all over the national territory.
