Demographic Census 2000: Overall Population Characteristics – Sample Results
With this publication, IBGE proceeds with the release of the sample results of Demographic Census 2000, which encompass Overall Characteristics of the Population, Migration and Moving , Education , Labor and Income , Marriage and Fertility Rates and Families and Households , presenting, in this volume, selected information about the classification of the resident population in Brazil by age, sex, location of the household, color or race, religion and levels of mental or physical disability.
The publication brings commentaries about the evolution of selected social and economic characteristics compared to the results obtained in Demographic Census 1991, the differences observed in the distinct geographic and population strata of the country, as well as the methodological notes and the concepts and definitions applied. The CD-ROM enclosed with the publication presents, besides the information in the printed volume, data for the Major Regions and Federative Units, the complete table plan which is the aim of the publication of Demographic Census 2000: first sample results , and an annex containing the Classification of Religions, developed by IBGE and the Higher Institute for Studies of Religion – ISER.
The results are estimates obtained by the expansion of the sample of 5 304 711 households and 20 274 412 persons, selected from all over the national territory.
