Sanitation Atlas

Sanitation Atlas

The deep regional inequalities in the substructure of sanitation make the improvement of services of water supply, sewage disposal, garbage collection and urban drainage, a goal to be reached today, by the State, and conquered by the Brazilian society.

This Atlas gathers information from the National Survey of Basic Sanitation 2000 and Demographic Census 2000, both from IBGE, and sources of other organizations and entities, and offers a wide approach of the matter, focusing not only on the space distribution, quality and efficiency of networks and services offered in the country, as well as the relational nature of basic sanitation and the preservation of environment and quality of life of population. It also presents a innovation in the perspective of analysis of results of National Survey of Basic Sanitation, a view by hydrological basins, essential for the understanding of the impact caused by the occupation and use of the territory on the hydric resources. Analytic texts, graphs, tables and images, besides a glossary with the terms and concepts considered relevant, make easier the integrated understanding of the selected themes. The set of this information is also available on the CD-ROM enclosed with the publication.

The Sanitation Atlas constitutes, for IBGE, an opportunity to contribute for the formulation and implementation of policies oriented to equalize the development and promotion of the satisfaction of the population.
