Survey of Technological Innovation

Industrial Survey of Technological Innovation 2005

The Industrial Survey of Technological Innovation, conducted by the IBGE with the support of the Research and Projects Financing - FINEP and of the Ministry of Science and Technology, has the objective of constructing national and regional indicators of the technological innovation activities developed in the Brazilian industrial enterprises with 10 or more employed persons. The universe of the present research covers segments of high technological intensity of telecommunications, computer science and research and development, besides the industrial activities surveyed until 2003.

The results now obtained update the information about innovative activities conducted by the industrial enterprises between the years 2003 and 2005, and provide the first statistical evidences about the technological innovation in the activities of telecommunications, computer science and research and development.

Several topics are included in this publication such as the efforts made to innovate; results of the innovative process; identification of the influence of the innovations in the performance of the enterprises; sources of information and relations of co-operations established with other organizations; support of the government to the innovative activities; and identification of the problems and obstacles for the implementation of innovations. Some of the variables are compared with the results obtained in the previous survey.

The publication includes technical notes with methodological aspects about the survey, a brief analysis of the aggregated results, annexes with coefficients of variation estimated for the selected variables, as well as a glossary with the concepts of the variables presented in the tables. The CD-ROM enclosed in the publication brings, besides the information in the printed volume, the results obtained by the survey also in 2000 and 2003, for total Brazil, by activities and by groups of employed persons, as well as industrial information by Major Regions and selected Federation Units.

The construction of the indicators regarding the process of technological innovation follows international methodological patterns and contributes for the understanding of the process of industrial development guaranteeing its comparability with data of other countries.

Methodological information can be obtained in the publication Industrial Survey of Technological Innovation, of the Series Methodological Reports.
