The main aspects of construction of this indicator as well as the methodological criteria used for classifying the industrial groups according to the degree of opening of the enterprises to exports are described. Also are studied the characteristics of the groups classified in the categories high, medium-high, medium-low and low degree of opening, especially for the main industrial sectors according to this categorization.
Methodological aspects used for the classification of the industrial sectors according to the technological use as well as the characteristics of the groups classified as being with high, medium high, medium low and low technology are described. The differences existing between the Brazilian and international taxonomies, standing out through the selected economic indicators, the main sectors according to this characterization also are analyzed.
The publication includes, also, technical notes about the methodological aspects of the survey and annexes containing the National Classification of Economic Activities referent to the industry.
The CD-ROM enclosed in the publication contains, besides the information of the printed volume, the tabular plan with updated data for the period 1996 to 2003 and a group of tables for the enterprises with more than 30 employed persons since 1996.
